Aventurine glass
Aventurine glass is translucent glass containing sparkling inclusions. The Corning Museum of Glass describes inclusions of gold, copper or chromic oxide. The material was first made in Venice in the fifteenth century and imitates the sparkle of the mineral aventurine quartz.
The glass should not be confused with natural aventurine quartz. Trade names such as goldstone are also used for artificial glass with copper coloured sparkle. Colour, distribution of particles, fracture and manufacturing evidence can help distinguish glass from stone and other glittering materials.
