Description
18th-century silver box with a hinged lid, a detailed figural relief and engraved monograms underneath. Its shaped outline and ornament have a pronounced Baroque character.
The lid shows figures and horses below a radiating divine symbol. The scene is provisionally interpreted as Pharaoh’s army in the Red Sea. One engraving underneath appears to read 1738. An engraved date alone does not establish the date of manufacture. The box dates to the 18th century. Its maker, country of origin and exact year of manufacture remain unidentified.
