Book-Shaped Money Bank – Kragerø Nye Sparebank c. 1920–30
Description
Antique money bank shaped as a book from Kragerø Nye Sparebank, manufactured by Bankers Utilities Co. in San Francisco. Made of embossed metal with red/black decoration and brass-coloured corner fittings.
The front depicts a bank building in relief with the text «Kragerø Nye Sparebank», while the back bears the inscription «Penger spart er penger tjent» (A penny saved is a penny earned). The spine is designed to resemble a book spine with lettering, giving it a realistic book-like appearance.
This type of money bank was used as a promotional item by banks, particularly during the interwar period, and is today a popular collectible with both historical and decorative value.
