Gilt 925 silver necklace with dark red stones

Gilt silver necklace with a decorative centre of faceted dark red stones and a suspended teardrop element. The chain has a spring-ring clasp and is marked 925 beside the clasp.

The stones appear to be garnets, but the stone type and natural origin have not been tested. The necklace has a classical design; the maker and exact age have not been established. It appears complete in the photographs, with minor signs of use on the metal and stone surfaces.
