Redirecting mail after a death in Norway
Mail redirection after a death means forwarding the deceased person's physical mail to an agreed address. Norway's Posten provides a separate form for temporary redirection for a deceased estate. Arrange this before clearing or handing over the home.
Ordering and documentation
Posten states that the estate form must be delivered at a postal service point. The person ordering must bring identification and a certificate showing authority to act for the estate. The linked form specifically requests a skifteattest. Ask Posten what documents it requires if the estate has a different form of representation. Do not use the deceased person's login to follow the ordinary online ordering procedure.
The form asks for the deceased person's name and address, the forwarding address, start date and the ordering person's signature. That person is responsible for payment. Posten specifies at least eight working days' notice for orders placed at a service point. Plan ahead of handing over the keys.
What is covered?
The service covers addressed letter mail distributed through Posten. Parcels are redirected only on request and for a fee. Do not assume that every carrier's deliveries or digital messages are included.
Practical suggestion: Keep the order confirmation, note the agreed period and review important senders who should be contacted directly. Treat this as a separate task from sorting household contents.
This information concerns Norway and was checked on 2 November 2026. Use Posten's guidance and estate form for ordering and current prices. For the home's contents, request an OBA inspection and quotation for estate clearance.
