Fears
Fears is a British watch brand tracing its roots to Edwin Fear’s Bristol workshop in 1846. The company’s own history records closure in 1976 and a relaunch by Nicholas Bowman-Scargill in 2016. These are separate milestones rather than evidence of uninterrupted production since 1846.
Historic and modern Fears watches need separate assessment. A newly made watch with a historically inspired shape is not a vintage watch. Record the model, reference, case, dial and movement, then compare these with documentation from the appropriate period.
Service history and condition matter when buying second-hand. Note replacement dials, hands, crowns or straps when known. A specification for a new model, such as power reserve or water resistance, does not automatically apply to an older example. British brand identity likewise does not establish the origin of every component. Describe the individual watch using the evidence available.
