Formuesfullmakt: access to a Norwegian estate's financial information
A formuesfullmakt is an authority the Norwegian court may issue to obtain information about a deceased person's assets and debts, including tax information. It helps heirs understand the estate before deciding how it should be administered. Court guidance explains that heirs may contact the court about this authority before accepting responsibility for debts.
Access to information and selling contents
Do not confuse access to financial information with established authority to agree a sale of household contents and movable belongings. A skifteattest has a different function in private estate administration. Clarify representation and any necessary authorisations before ordering clearance or signing a sale agreement for the estate.
As a practical preparation, keep the financial overview separate from the list of objects to retain, assess or sell. Ask the district court and the institution concerned which documents are needed for a particular information request.
