Foot warmer
A foot warmer is an object intended to keep feet warm, including during travel in cold vehicles. Historical forms vary. Some incorporate a heat source or container, while others provide insulation around the feet.
The Henry Ford documents an example from about 1900 containing a brick heated before the journey. London Museum holds stoneware examples, while The Met documents an insulating fur version. These show why material and construction must be examined before identifying the heating method.
Record the container, openings, lid, any insert and wear. Distinguish a foot warmer from implements intended to warm a bed. Shape alone does not establish a secure date or maker. Preserve markings and documentation with the object.
