Jabot pin
A jabot pin is a jewellery pin decorated at both ends, associated with adornment of a shirt front, collar or tie. It differs from an ordinary stickpin with a single decorative head. Its name refers to the jabot, a decorative textile worn at the front of a shirt.
The type appears in several styles. Aguttes documents earlier examples as well as Art Deco pieces, while BADA illustrates a French Art Nouveau example dated around 1900. The date assigned to one documented jewel cannot be applied to every pin of this construction.
Check that the two decorative ends belong together and examine the pin, fastening and repairs. If an end detaches, inspect its mechanism gently rather than forcing it. Shape alone does not identify metal or gemstones. Arrows, flowers and geometric motifs cannot establish a maker either. Describe an undocumented example by its type instead of assigning a famous jeweller without evidence.
