Maximum bid and automatic bidding

A maximum bid sets the upper amount an automatic bidding system may bid on your behalf. OBA describes a system that bids up to the limit you choose. This differs from the seller's reserve price and the final hammer price.

Your limit and the displayed bid

Automatic bidding can raise bids incrementally within your maximum as others bid. Check the particular system's handling of increments, equal bids and auction closing. Do not assume that all platforms apply the same rules.

As practical preparation, choose a limit with the full cost in mind, including any auction fees, shipping and other stated charges. A maximum bid is a bidding limit, not a valuation certificate or a guarantee of winning.

Practical example: If you set a bid limit of NOK 1,000, you still need to check any charges outside the bid amount. This example does not describe OBA's fees or bidding increments.

See OBA's auction page and read the relevant object description and terms before bidding.
