Mobile, broadband and TV services in a deceased estate

When reviewing a deceased estate, clarify both mobile, broadband and TV subscriptions and the associated equipment. Contact the actual provider about cancellation or transfer. Ordering, documentation and returns must follow the relevant agreement and provider's procedures.

Cancel or transfer?

Telenor's estate guidance distinguishes an existing subscription owner from someone acting for the deceased. For the latter, it describes a form using the representative's own BankID with an estate certificate attached. Telenor also describes transferring most subscriptions when wanted. Talkmore requests written documentation when transferring an internet subscription for a deceased person. These are individual providers' procedures, rather than a common process for every company.

Practical suggestion: List the provider, customer number, requested change and confirmation received. Ask about the final bill, any instalment payments for a phone and the implications of transfer. Use your own identity when representing the estate, see BankID after a death.

Equipment may need to remain

Telenor states that rented equipment is normally returned, while equipment under a housing association or condominium agreement may be tied to the address. Altibox states that its home gateway stays with the property when moving and asks customers to clarify returns with their local partner.

Identify routers, TV boxes and accessories with unresolved status in the object inventory before clearance. Postpone sale, donation or removal until the provider has clarified what belongs to the estate, should be returned or must remain.

Practical information for Norway, checked on 2 November 2026. Consult the provider's estate guidance where applicable. Identify equipment that must stay when arranging an OBA inspection and clearance.
