Banknotes
Banknotes are paper or polymer currency and a field within numismatics. Country, issuer, denomination, date, series, signatures, serial number and condition are central to identification.
Identification
Photograph the complete front and back. Record issuing bank, denomination, date, series, signatures and full serial number. Watermarks, security threads, printing and design distinguish issues. A date in the design is not always the issue date.
Condition
Folds, tears, pinholes, stains, writing, tape and missing corners affect grade. Use UNC, XF and VF cautiously. Pressing, washing or chemical cleaning may reduce interest; disclose repairs.
Numbers and rarity
Distinctive serials, replacement notes and documented errors may be collectible but require confirmation. Age and denomination alone do not determine value.
Storage
Store flat in acid-free, PVC-free sleeves away from light and moisture. Do not laminate, tape or write on notes.
