Skifteattest: Norwegian estate administration certificate
A skifteattest is a certificate issued by the district court in connection with private administration of a Norwegian deceased estate. The Norwegian Tax Administration explains that the estate has entered private administration when the certificate is issued. Its recipient is entitled to dispose of the deceased's assets and bind the estate.
Why does it matter when selling contents?
Before selling household contents and movable belongings, establish who may act for the estate. If someone else will handle the sale, clarify their authority too. Being the contact person should not be used as the sole basis for entering an agreement.
Authority to represent the estate and assessment of its objects and selling options are separate matters. Kartverket also distinguishes this certificate from the documents used for an undivided estate or court-appointed administration.
