Sølvsmeden på Sølvberget (Flatheim)

Sølvsmeden på Sølvberget is a Norwegian jewellery business with its own workshop. Steinar Flatheim opened the shop in 1960; his son Snorre Flatheim took over in 2000. Foundation and succession are separate events, and the surname Flatheim should be associated with the correct person and period.

The business combines its own jewellery with retailing other brands, including Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen. A jewel purchased there was therefore not necessarily made in the shop’s own workshop. Seller, designer and executing goldsmith may be different parties.

For pre-owned pieces, assess receipts, labels, model information and markings together. A shop name on a case primarily records a retail association. Examine clasps, joints and repairs, and state only documented materials. The family name or workshop address alone cannot identify a specific responsibility mark.
