Uranium glass

Uranium glass, also known as uranium glass or vaseline glass, is a glass material containing uranium oxide. This gives the glass a characteristic green or yellow-green colour and makes it fluorescent under UV light. Uranium glass was popular from the mid-1800s until the 1940s, particularly in decorative objects and kitchenware.

The production of uranium glass began in Great Britain, but quickly spread to other parts of Europe and North America. Glassworks such as Fenton Art Glass Company, Westmoreland Glass Company, and Murano in Italy have been known for their uranium glass products. In Norway, it is less well known, but certain glassworks may have produced similar items.

The collector's value of uranium glass is high among enthusiasts, particularly for items with a unique design or colour. It is worth noting that uranium glass is generally considered safe to use, as the amount of uranium in the glass is so small that it poses no health risk. However, it is recommended to use uranium glass for decorative purposes rather than everyday use.
