Weyse's model book (1763 glass catalogue)
Weyse's model book is an illustrated sales catalogue of glass from Nøstetangen and Ås. The 1763 edition was drawn by the engraver Olufsen Weyse. Its coloured drawings and prices provide an important source for the designs that were offered.
This is a catalogue of models, not an inventory of all surviving objects. Nøstetangen Norsk Glassmuseum describes model names, numbers and prices, sometimes with dimensions. The museum also states that the 1763 edition held by Riksarkivet was reprinted by Glashistorisk Selskab in Aalborg in 2015.
When comparing objects, examine the whole form, including foot, stem, bowl, handle and proportions where applicable. Resemblance to a drawing alone does not establish that a particular glass was made at either factory. The catalogue includes products from more than one production site. Use wording such as 'comparable to a model in the catalogue' when provenance is unresolved. When buying or cataloguing the book itself, distinguish an original from a later reprint or loose copies. Identify the edition and page used for the comparison.
