Description

Rare opportunity! Beautiful, antique neck brooch / collar button for bunad or festive costume, crafted by the world-renowned Bergen silversmith Marius Hammer (active 1871–1927).

The brooch consists of three traditional buttons (domes) decorated with twisted silver wire (filigree technique), and three hanging, smooth triangular leaves that create an elegant play of light. This design is particularly well suited as a collar button at the top of the shirt on men's bunads (for example beltestakk or other historical costumes).

Specifications:

  • Maker: Marius Hammer, Bergen (Purveyor to the Royal Court)
  • Material: Genuine silver, hallmarked 830S
  • Maker's mark: Original maker's mark (Marius Hammer's well-known goldsmith's hammer struck together with S/M)
  • Condition: Fine antique condition with lovely, original patina. Pin and clasp mechanism on the reverse function as they should. All three leaves are intact. The pin shows signs of wear and use.

Marius Hammer is considered one of Norway's most outstanding silver artists from the Art Nouveau and Historicism periods, making this brooch a wonderful collector's item and a lasting piece of Norwegian cultural history.
