A Model Boat, a Coffee Cup and Another Story: Inside OBA's Tønsberg Shop
Some visitors arrive looking for something specific. Others stop at a model boat, a coloured glass stem or a watch that brings back a memory. At Østlandet Brukt & Antikk in Sem, just outside Tønsberg, there is room for both. If you have something to sell, we would also like to hear from you.
A detail can be easy to miss in a hurry. Here, it may be the reason to pause: a model's rigging, the decoration on a jug or light falling across a row of glasses. Such discoveries stand side by side at Døvleveien 3.
The photographs were taken in our Tønsberg shop in October. They show part of a changing selection of maritime objects, porcelain, glass, watches and collectables. Individual items may have sold before your visit, so please ask beforehand about anything of particular interest.

Maritime objects worth a closer look
Model sailing boats, ships' wheels, a propeller on a stand and a ship's lamp give parts of the shop a maritime character. How an object was made can be as interesting as how it might fit into your home.
Follow a model boat's hull and rigging. The instrument in the wooden case invites a different examination: scales, markings, moving parts and any labels. Ask what information accompanies the particular object and whether it was made for use or display.
Boats, the ship's wheel, propeller and lamp show the breadth of maritime collecting. Some visitors value the connection with the sea; others notice construction and craftsmanship.

Cups and glasses for everyday life
Further inside, colourful cups, decorated tableware and glasses with coloured stems offer other possibilities. A shared colour, similar cup shape or distinctive glass can be the starting point for a personal table setting.
You can also look for the missing piece from a service you already own. Bring photographs of the decoration and factory mark, and note dimensions to distinguish similar pieces of different sizes or shapes.
Inspect rims, handles, feet and repairs. Ask about suitability for use and cleaning where this matters to your purchase.

Watches and collectables: interest in the details
The display cases give space to small objects worth attention. A watch can appeal through design, mechanism, maker or a personal memory. Two examples that look similar initially may differ once their details are examined.
Ask about functions, known service history and accompanying accessories. Our vintage watch guide explains the details we consider.

We also buy antiques and collections in Tønsberg and Vestfold
We would like to hear from people considering selling antiques, watches, gold, silver, art, older toys, coins and other collectables. This may involve an individual object, a collection or contents from an inherited property.
Start with photographs and a brief description, including location and the approximate size of the collection. Our photography guide explains useful details before we agree the next step.
We assess potential purchases according to the object, condition and demand. A purchase offer differs from a formal valuation. Contact us about selling, or use the buying enquiry form on our Norwegian website. For a whole property, our Norwegian page explains estate clearance services.
