Æsa Björk

Æsa Björk is an Icelandic glass artist living and working in Bergen, Norway. Her practice includes sculpture and installations and forms part of the Norwegian glass art environment. The Corning Museum of Glass documents her residency at its Studio in October 2006.

Glass within a broader practice

In her artist statement, Björk explores glass through the relationships between strength and fragility, inside and outside. The Shield series is a collaboration with musician and performer Tinna Thorsteinsdóttir. Her own project documentation lists glass alongside electronics and video projections. Treating every work as a traditional functional object or a glass factory product would therefore be misleading.

Identification and provenance

For a possible work, compare title, materials, dimensions, exhibition history and provenance with documentation for that particular piece. Establish whether the object is independent or belongs to an installation. Visual resemblance alone does not establish authorship. Glass forming part of a technical or composite artwork should be documented with its associated components and presentation information.
