Anne-Mari Vardenær Syre

Anne-Mari Vardenær Syre is the glass artist behind Glassblåseriet in Stathelle. Norske Glasskunstnere states that she has operated the glass workshop since 1999 and describes functional glass with varied expressions and inspiration from nature.

Pingo and working glass

Pingo, from 2019, received the Østlandsutstillingen prize in 2021. The organiser's 2022 catalogue describes glass that was blown, etched, cut and polished. This particular working process shows why a finished object should be described through several stages rather than merely as mouth-blown. The work's title and date should be distinguished from the year of the award.

A documented collaboration

For the baptismal font inaugurated in Stathelle Church in 2020, Vardenær Syre made the glass bowl. Christine Reintz designed the base and Ryde & Berg manufactured it. The complete font should therefore not be attributed to the glass artist alone. When buying other works, retain signature details, title, dimensions and documented provenance. Compare surfaces and edges with work documentation to distinguish intended finishing from subsequent damage.
