Auction fees: buyer's premium and seller's commission

Auction fees remunerate an auction operator for services connected with a sale. A buyer's premium and a seller's commission concern different sides of the transaction. Check the particular auction's terms to establish who pays what. Skanfil's buying and consignment information describes these charges, while Auksjonen.no uses a different pricing model for private sellers.

Separate the bid from the total

Buyers should identify additions to their bid. Sellers should calculate what remains after agreed deductions. Check the rate, calculation basis, any minimum charge and other stated costs. Clarify transport and the treatment of unsold objects too.

Simplified calculation example, not an actual price list: A sale amount of NOK 1,000 with an agreed seller fee of NOK 200 leaves NOK 800 before other agreed deductions. The buyer's cost must be calculated separately under the purchase terms.

When considering selling a collection, compare expected net proceeds and the work involved. OBA describes direct purchasing on its buying and selling page. See also OBA's auction page and check current terms before bidding. Fees in the source examples are not presented as OBA's rates.
