Upright band loom
A båndstøre is an upright loom for weaving narrow bands. Store norske leksikon states that this tool, also called a båndvevrei, was used in Telemark and Setesdal. It belongs to a broader family of Norwegian band weaving tools.
The term should not be applied automatically to every band loom. A box shaped bandstol was especially popular in Hallingdal, while rigid heddle weaving and tablet weaving name other tools or techniques. Construction, local terminology, provenance and wear are important during identification.
