Casio
Casio is a Japanese electronics and watch brand. Its watch history began with the Casiotron in 1974, a digital watch whose automatic calendar accommodated months of different lengths. This marks the beginning of Casio watches, not the founding year of the whole company.
Casiotron and G-Shock are different lines
The first G-Shock, the DW-5000C, arrived in 1983 with a structure developed to protect its movement from impacts. Casiotron and G-Shock represent different aspects of the brand's history. A rectangular display or tough exterior alone does not identify a particular model or production period.
Model and module
Record the model designation and module number when present, and consult documentation appropriate to that watch. Check that the display shows the necessary segments and that buttons, light, alarm and other stated functions work. Showing the right time at a glance is not a complete functional test.
Older watches and modern retro designs
Appearance alone does not establish age. Compare the actual reference with documented versions. Describe cracks in the strap or outer protection, signs of battery leakage and missing parts. Identify an original strap, replacement strap and replacement protective parts separately. An old water-resistance marking is not a recent pressure test.
