Citizen

Citizen is a Japanese watch brand with roots in the Shokosha Watch Research Institute of 1918. The first Citizen pocket watch appeared in 1924, while Citizen Watch Company was established in 1930. These dates refer to different events and should not be used interchangeably.

A brand name is not a movement type

Citizen has made both mechanical and electronic watches. Eco-Drive is the manufacturer's light-powered technology, converting light into stored energy to run the watch. It should not be used to describe every Citizen timepiece, and light power is not mechanical automatic winding.

Checking an older example

Record references, calibre information and case-back markings. Use instructions for the actual movement when setting or checking functions. Do not transfer the properties of a newer model to an older watch sharing its brand name.

A stopped watch requires investigation. Assuming it only needs an ordinary battery change is not a diagnosis, particularly when its power system is unclear. State what has actually been tested, how long the watch has run and whether service is documented. Examine case, dial, hands and movement for evidence of later replacements too.
