Cuervo y Sobrinos

Cuervo y Sobrinos is a watch brand rooted in Havana's jewellery and watch trade. Its own timeline distinguishes Ramón Fernández Cuervo's first jewellery shop in 1862 from the establishment of Cuervo y Sobrinos in 1882. The name means Cuervo and nephews. Today's watches are produced in Switzerland, with headquarters in Capolago on Lake Lugano.

The business history includes a dormant period and a later revival of the name. It should therefore not be described as uninterrupted watch production since 1882. Modern collections include Historiador, Espléndidos and Prominente. Some designs draw on earlier models and Art Deco.

When buying older watches, assess a Cuervo y Sobrinos signature together with the maker's name, movement, case and provenance. A retailer's signature on a dial does not by itself prove that the retailer made the movement. Modern model specifications and historic retailer-signed watches require separate assessment.
