CWC (Cabot Watch Company)
CWC stands for Cabot Watch Company, founded by Ray Mellor in 1972. The company has supplied watches to the British armed forces. Its own history identifies mechanical W10 General Service watches and RAF chronographs among early deliveries, making the brand relevant to military wristwatch collectors.
Service original or modern reissue?
CWC also offers modern reissues. The Mellor-72 appears in the manufacturer's own reissue collection and uses a historical dial design. An old-style logo or a model name containing a year therefore does not prove manufacture or military issue in that year.
Examine the individual watch
Record the reference, serial number and case-back markings in clear photographs. Compare these with the correct model and period, distinguishing documented military issue from civilian purchase of a military-style watch. Include service records and replacement parts in the assessment. Do not transfer movement, luminous-material or water-resistance specifications from today's Mellor-72 to an older W10, or between mechanical and quartz models. A coherent documentary record is needed before assigning a particular unit, service period or history of use.
