Dantziger Kelchen (historical stemware form)

Dantziger Kelchen is a historical stemware model name documented by Nøstetangen Norwegian Glass Museum. The museum places it among forms with German connections, often featuring an articulated baluster stem. A model name is not itself proof of a place of manufacture.

Catalogue and variation

The museum's German-model page shows an 11.5 cm example with a reference to page 160 of Weyse's catalogue. Another example is recorded as 17 cm high. These entries explain why one measurement should not become a universal requirement for the name.

Examining a glass

Compare bowl profile, stem elements, foot and any decoration with documented examples. Record similarities and differences. The geographical sound of the name does not prove manufacture in Danzig, and resemblance alone does not prove Nøstetangen production. State uncertain attributions explicitly. Consider engraving, restoration and surviving provenance separately from identification of the model.
