Dugena

Dugena is a German watch brand rooted in Deutsche Uhrmacher-Genossenschaft Alpina, established in Eisenach in 1917. The organisation brought together watchmakers and retailers. Its official history also describes the earlier trading names Tresor and Festa.

Dugena and Alpina are not interchangeable

The historical connections explain part of the background but do not turn a Dugena watch into an Alpina model. The company's history explains the Dugena name as a way of distinguishing the German business from the original Alpina watches. Record the wording actually present on dial, case and movement.

Brand and calibre

A brand name alone does not describe a movement's construction. Record model designation, calibre and identifying numbers separately. Compare the watch with documentation for the correct version, not just a similar catalogue photograph.

Examine dial, hands, crown and caseback for replacements and wear. An old brand name does not automatically date the object. Distinguish documented servicing from a brief running test, and do not transfer modern specifications to an older example.
