Enicar

Enicar is a Swiss watch brand. Its name reverses the surname Racine, after Ariste and Emma Racine. The business expanded into a larger factory in Lengnau after the First World War.

The Antiquarian Horological Society records that the early business used Schild movements. This illustrates why a watch brand and the manufacturer of an individual movement should be investigated separately. An early supplier does not automatically identify the movements used in every later Enicar watch.

For a secondhand example, document case, dial, hands and movement together. Record references and readable markings before comparing them with evidence for the same version. A refinished dial or replacement case can complicate the identification of an apparently similar watch. Brand history provides context but cannot establish an individual watch's production date, originality or servicing needs. Preserve purchase receipts and older service documents wherever available.
