Fjordsylv
Fjordsylv is a Norwegian silver workshop in Vikøyri on the Sognefjord. Knut Mykkeltvedt founded the business in 1974. Silver jewellery for the bunad, Norway's traditional costume, is a central specialism. Fjordsylv identifies a producer rather than a single costume or type of ornament.
The workshop combines traditional forms with its own designs and local motifs. Its Steimsringen jewellery draws on finds from Steim in Vik. An archaeological source of inspiration does not make the resulting modern jewel an antique.
When examining secondhand pieces, compare their design, dimensions, material and accompanying records with the maker's information. A retailer's name on a box does not necessarily identify the workshop. Decoration alone cannot establish that an unmarked silver object was made by Fjordsylv. Check catches, joints and any replacement parts when assessing condition and completeness.
