Geir Nustad

Geir Nustad is a Norwegian glass artist born in Tromsø in 1984. Nationaal Glasmuseum documents his training at Kosta Glasskola in Sweden and the glass department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. His own website records graduation in 2012 and a base in Leerdam from 2015.

His practice connects glass with both craft and autonomous art objects. The museum highlights links to the landscape of northern Norway, while the artist discusses contrasts within glass, including strength and fragility. Norwegian artistic background does not mean that every work was produced in Norway.

For identification, compare an object with documented works and any exhibition or purchase records. Photograph the form, underside and any signature. A Nordic appearance, particular colour or unusual glass shape alone is insufficient to attribute a piece to Nustad. Distinguish documented collaboration or the execution of glassblowing from authorship of the design itself.
