Glashütte Original
Glashütte Original is a German watch brand and manufacture in Glashütte, Saxony. The brand history traces its roots to 1845, when the first watchmakers settled in the town with support from the Kingdom of Saxony.
Tradition and business history are different
The year 1845 marks the beginning of the Glashütte watch industry, not necessarily the production year of a watch bearing the present brand name. The history includes several workshops, organisations and later businesses. Watches marked GUB or Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe should be described by their own marking and period, not automatically as a modern Glashütte Original model.
Identification
Check the dial, case back, reference, serial number and movement. Compare the calibre and case details with documentation for the correct period. A three quarter plate or Glashütte style decoration does not prove the maker by itself. Record refinished dials, replacement parts and mismatched movements and cases.
