Goro iron
A goro iron is a baking iron for goro biscuits, also called gode råd. Its plates imprint decoration on the flat biscuits. Long-handled versions were used over open fires, while other types fit a stove. Electric goro irons also exist.
Consider the shape and construction in relation to the heat source. A round iron can produce several rectangular biscuits, so its external outline alone does not identify the baked product. Distinguish it from a krumkake iron: Goro remain flat, whereas krumkaker are shaped after baking.
Examine both plates, hinges, handles and any pivot pins on an older iron. Record maker's marks and the presence of a supporting or stove ring. Look for fractures, repairs and missing parts. An old-fashioned pattern does not necessarily date the whole iron, and soot alone proves no specific age. Assess its condition as a collectible separately from any decision about cooking with it.
