Guinand
Guinand is a watch brand with Swiss origins and later production in Frankfurt am Main. Its own history dates Guinand Frères in Les Brenets to 1865 and Helmut Sinn’s acquisition to 1995. These are different historical events, not two founding dates.
Name and identity
The connection with Helmut Sinn does not make every Guinand a watch sold under the Sinn brand. When cataloguing an individual watch, distinguish its brand from the names of owners or business partners. Check whether an inscription identifies the brand, model, movement or retailer.
Older watches and chronographs
Document the dial, case back, reference number and movement markings before dating a watch. For a chronograph, distinguish information about starting, stopping and resetting from ordinary timekeeping checks. Record service history and replacements of the dial, hands or pushers. Assess an older example using evidence for its model rather than today’s general brand presentation. Similar styling alone does not establish the same production year or prove that all components are original.
