Gullsmed Aabø
Gullsmed Aabø is a family business with a workshop and shop in Kviteseid. Aslak Aanund Aabø and Solveig opened the shop in 1956. Aslak worked on costume silver, while Solveig served customers and ran the shop. Hans Kristian Aabø took over the business in 2000.
Its central specialism is handmade silver jewellery for Telemark bunads, Norway's traditional costumes. The workshop uses historical patterns alongside its own designs. It represents a continuing craft tradition rather than a single brooch type. Aslak Aanund Aabø as an individual should also be distinguished from the business that continued after the generational change.
When examining a secondhand piece, investigate its design and documented maker separately. A traditional form does not make an object an antique. Purchase, commission and repair records may be more precise than a broad style description. Check that pendants, fastenings and other components belong together. A specific hallmark attribution requires evidence beyond a similar decorative pattern.
