Gullsmed Dahlsveen (Trondheim)

Gullsmed Dahlsveen is a jewellery business in Trondheim, established in 1926 according to its own account. Its connection with the sivilingeniørring, formerly called the NTH ring, makes it relevant to Norwegian jewellery history.

Retailing and craft services

The firm records its affiliation with Mestergull from 2007 and offers repairs, engraving and bespoke design. This does not mean that every piece sold in the shop was made in-house. A retailer can stock several brands while also providing goldsmithing services.

The engineering graduate ring

Dahlsveen states that its production and numbering of the ring began in 1928. The same history explains that Helge Karlgård, trained in ring production at its workshop in 1965, later established a separate workshop producing the ring for Dahlsveen. This illustrates the need to distinguish the selling business from the executing workshop.

Assessing an individual piece

Record model, dimensions, metal marks, numbering and ownership history. A case bearing the Dahlsveen name is supporting information, not proof by itself of who made the jewellery. Do not assign an unidentified letter punch to the firm without evidence. For a numbered ring, an enquiry about archive records may be more informative than an assumed date based on shape alone.
