Gullsmed Danielsen, Mandal
Gullsmed Danielsen is a jewellery business with its own workshop in Mandal, Norway. Its shop history begins with Nils Lorentz Nielsen's business in 1892. The Danielsen name came later: Bjarne Carlsen and Georg Danielsen bought the shop in 1922 and continued it as Dora Nielsens Eftf. Per Danielsen took over operations in 1978. Tone Baagøe Stangeland bought the shop in 2016 and continued it as Gullsmed Danielsens Eftf.
Workshop and retail activities
The present business describes an in-house goldsmith workshop providing precious-metal repairs, stone setting, sizing and engraving. It also sells other brands. A historic connection to the shop, including an original sales receipt, therefore does not necessarily identify the maker of a piece.
Assessing older objects
Distinguish the early Nielsen business, the Danielsen trading names and subsequent ownership changes. The date 1892 concerns the shop's historical roots, not incorporation under today's name. Record maker's marks and fineness indications separately and compare them with evidence for the particular object. Repair by a workshop does not establish that the same workshop originally manufactured it.
