Gullsmed Hagen
Gullsmed Hagen is a jewellery business in Ålesund, also known as Gullsmed K. Hagen and Mestergull Hagen. Its own history dates the business to Hans Henrik Hagen in 1889. The name therefore refers to a family enterprise spanning several generations rather than to a single designer.
The business combines jewellery retail with its own workshop, offering repairs, adjustments, engraving and remodelling. This distinction matters when examining older objects: A Hagen box or receipt records a connection with the shop, but does not by itself prove that the object was made in its workshop.
Record the retailer, documented designer and manufacturing workshop separately. Photograph every mark clearly and compare it with evidence for the relevant period. A surname or an isolated initial is insufficient for a reliable attribution of a maker's or responsibility mark.
