Gullsmed Hodne

Gullsmed Hodne, also known as Mestergull Hodne, is a Kristiansand jewellery business with roots in 1887. A 2017 company interview describes earlier in-house manufacture of trophies and wedding rings. This had ceased, while repairs and engraving continued. The shop's own contact page lists Markens gate 27.

For collectors this dated account illustrates why manufacture and later retail activity must be distinguished. Information from one period should not automatically be extended to the entire business history. The shop's name and the identity of an individual goldsmith are also separate details.

For older silver or jewellery, investigate Hodne's role in relation to the particular object. A retailer's presentation box alone does not establish in-house manufacture. Preserve receipts, model names and clear photographs of marks. Do not assign the same manufacturer to every item sold through the business, or attribute a responsibility mark without evidence for the relevant period.
