Karlgård goldsmith workshop
Karlgård is a goldsmith workshop in Trondheim serving both private customers and shops. It makes its own jewellery, remodels and repairs pieces, and produces academic, lodge and association rings. Such rings carry symbols of qualification or membership and require more precise identification than simply describing them as gold rings.
Gullsmed Dahlsveen's history documents a specific division of work for the Norwegian graduate engineer's ring. Helge Karlgård learned its production at Ola Dahlsveen's workshop in the 1960s and later established his own workshop. Dahlsveen identifies Karlgård as the producer supplying its shop. This distinguishes the executing workshop from the retailer and from the ring's original designer.
When examining an older academic ring, photograph its emblem, internal numbers, inscriptions, fineness indication and other marks. Keep purchase and repair records. A familiar design or a Dahlsveen box does not alone establish that a particular example was made by Karlgård. Compare production numbers with the relevant register or other reliable documentation.
