Halvor Håkanes (silversmith)

Halvor Håkanes is a Norwegian silversmith and folk musician from Tinn in Telemark. A 2023 interview with him in Kirkespeilet documents his connection with Nesodden. The 2016 exhibition catalogue Søljer: tradisjon og fri form describes his work with costume silver. This entry concerns his silversmithing.

Costume silver and regional patterns

When recording a sølje brooch, list its maker and costume region as separate information. Jewellery may follow a regional tradition without the shape alone identifying the workshop. Also distinguish an older original from a later object based on a historical model. The age of a tradition cannot establish the age of an individual piece.

Examining a particular object

Photograph the reverse, fastening, marks, decoration and pendants. Compare these with documented pieces or surviving commission records. If the attribution rests only on oral information, say so explicitly. Record losses and previous repairs before intervention. A silver fineness mark does not itself identify Håkanes as the maker, and no particular maker's mark is assigned to him here without supporting evidence.
