Herbelin
Herbelin is a French watch brand associated with Charquemont. Founder Michel Herbelin made his first watches under the Impec name in 1947. According to the manufacturer's history, he adopted his own name as a brand in 1965. Impec, Michel Herbelin and Herbelin should therefore be interpreted in their historical context.
French watchmaking and Swiss movements
The manufacturer describes present-day design, assembly and inspection in Charquemont and the use of Swiss movements. Its range includes quartz and automatic mechanical watches. Newport and Antarès are examples of collection names. A French brand and a Swiss movement are therefore compatible descriptions.
Identifying older examples
Check the exact dial wording, reference, case and movement. Compare them with documentation for the same model and period. The brand's origins in 1947 do not date an individual watch, and specifications of a modern model do not establish an older watch's water resistance or functions. Sales descriptions should distinguish model name, movement type and observed condition, with later parts or repairs documented separately.
