The Holter series (glass service, 1771)
The Holter series is a historical glass service dated 1771 by Norway's National Museum. Its catalogue names Nøstetangen glassworks as manufacturer and Heinrich Gottlieb Köhler as engraver. The material is crystal, described as blown glass with engraved decoration. It is a specific documented group, not a generic name for all engraved Nøstetangen glass.
The subjects concern Norwegian industry and working life. Catalogue titles include Agriculture, Trade and Shipping, Sawmill, Silver Works and Copper Works. Titles and numbering identify individual parts. An industrial scene alone cannot make an isolated glass part of this series.
Compare details, inscriptions, composition and glass form. Distinguish an original component from another contemporary object or later reproduction. The production date 1771 must not be confused with registration or deposit information in an inventory number. Artistic authorship, factory manufacture and subsequent ownership are separate claims requiring evidence.
