Jacob Steen
Jacob Steen is documented as a goldsmith through several works in the National Museum of Norway. A gold scent container is dated to the period 1775 to 1790 and lists Steen as the artist. It is cast, raised and chased, contains a natural sponge and is classified as Rococo. The museum records the place as Oslo, historically Christiania.
The museum also connects Steen with surviving spoons, beakers and a punch ladle. The dates belong to individual objects and should not be treated as a complete biography. Attribution should rest on legible marks, comparable museum objects, technique and provenance.
