Kleiveland ur og gull
Kleiveland ur og gull is a Norwegian family business rooted in watchmaking in Indre Arna. Sigmund Kleiveland and his wife Gudrun opened a watchmaker's shop and workshop on 1 October 1956. This dates the beginning of the business, rather than every piece of jewellery subsequently sold there.
The family history records Reidun's goldsmith training and the third generation taking over in 2010. The firm's repair page documents services including remaking old gold, resizing rings, setting replacement diamonds and restringing pearl necklaces. Retailing therefore sits alongside craft work and repair services.
When examining an older jewel, record a Kleiveland box, receipt or repair slip as provenance according to the role it actually establishes. A retailer's name alone does not identify the designer or manufacturing workshop. Compare such documents with the object's own marks and evidence of later alterations. Retaining repair records can help explain differences between the present piece and an earlier description.
