Krumkake iron

A krumkake iron bakes wafers between two plates. Freshly baked krumkaker remain soft enough to shape around a krumkake roller before they harden. The roller is a separate tool, distinct from the baking iron itself.

Older baking irons include long-handled types for open hearths and versions adapted to stoves. Long arms keep hands away from the flame. Stove irons may be designed to turn within a ring, whereas electric irons have their own heating elements. A krumkake iron is consequently not one fixed type of appliance.

For identification, photograph the plate patterns, hinge, handles and underside. Look for maker's marks, missing stands or rings and later repairs. Distinguish krumkake, waffle and goro irons through their complete construction and documentation, not decoration or size alone. Do not describe an unrelated iron and roller as an original set without supporting evidence.
