Low-charge warning (solar watches)

A low-charge warning alerts the wearer when a solar watch has little stored energy. Some models alter the seconds hand's movement. Interpret that signal through the correct instructions rather than automatically diagnosing a mechanical fault.

Seiko's instructions for specified V calibres describe two-second steps as a near-depletion signal on models with a seconds hand. They recommend sufficient charging by exposing the dial to light. Required time varies with calibre, model and illumination. A few minutes of light cannot therefore be presented as a documented full charge for all watches.

Distinguish a charge warning from power saving, in which hands may stop at specific positions. Seiko's customer page describes both, but its positions and functions must not be transferred to other models. For a pre-owned watch, record calibre, observed hand movement and response to correct charging. Do not automatically treat a rechargeable solar watch as a disposable-battery watch.
