Merete Rein (Rein glass)
Merete Rein is the glass artist behind Rein glass in Aurland. In her profile with Norske Glasskunstnere she dates the studio's start to 2012. She describes drinking glasses, vases and bowls based on classical forms, alongside a move towards freer expression while retaining a focus on use.
Material and craftsmanship
Rein's presentation in the Sakte network describes glass shaped hot by hand, with small variations contributing to each object's character. This matters when comparing a set: differences should be examined before being described as damage or a mixture of models.
Recording and condition
Photograph the complete form, rim and base, including any signature or label. Compare these details with documented work and surviving purchase records. Handmade variation alone does not identify the artist. Examine surfaces closely to distinguish a deliberate irregularity from a later rim chip. Record scratches, deposits and previous repairs separately. A purchase date is not necessarily the manufacturing date, and 2012 is the reported start of the studio rather than a date for every object. Avoid attributing unsigned glass solely from colour or a general resemblance of form.
