Mido
Mido is a Swiss watch brand founded by Georges Schaeren in 1918. Its own history identifies Multifort from 1934 and Ocean Star from 1959 as important model names. Brand and model family must nevertheless be distinguished from the reference of an individual watch.
A model family is not a single watch
A name such as Multifort does not alone establish size, calibre or production year. Record the full designation and actual numbers before comparing catalogues or documented examples. Do not transfer the specifications of a newer model to an older watch bearing the same family name.
Dial, case and movement
Photograph dial inscriptions, hands, crown, case and back. During specialist examination, document movement markings alongside case information. Do not infer a movement specification from appearance alone. A service replacement can affect an assessment even when the watch still works.
Condition before historical promises
Ask about running, functional checks and documented servicing. Describe polishing, corrosion and replaced parts specifically. Historical claims of resistance to water or shocks are not a recent condition check. A correct model name does not automatically make a worn example ready for active use. Distinguish observation from assumption.
