Miyota

Miyota is a Japanese watch movement brand within the Citizen group. Its origins lie in Citizen's construction of a movement factory in Miyota, Nagano, in 1959. The manufacturer's history dates the launch of the Miyota brand itself to 1980. Factory origins and the introduction of the brand name are therefore separate events.

Quartz and mechanical movements

Miyota supplies movements to other watch brands. Calibre 2035 is an analogue quartz movement, while 8215 is mechanical with automatic and manual winding. Describing a watch merely as having a Miyota movement is consequently incomplete. Identify its calibre and version before assigning functions or specifications.

Older watches

Photograph movement markings and compare them with documentation for the correct version and period. An updated product description concerns the version described; features such as stop-seconds require verification on the actual watch. The dial may carry a different brand from the movement. Record servicing and any replacement movement separately from the watch's original manufacture.
